Road Trip Tips: How to Conserve Gas

Going for a long drive? A long leisurely drive to the countryside or to any far-off destination is a pleasure for most drivers, the rising prices of fuel is the exact opposite, though. Want a fair trade off? Get a load of these things you have to consider to have a nice long drive and still save on fuel:

  • Make sure your car is in its prime running condition. Before you go on that rip, get your car tuned up. Make sure that your tires are properly and sufficiently inflated and that the wheels are properly aligned.
  • Fill up your tank in the morning; cooler gasoline is more compact that means more for the same price. Also, know the specs of your engine. Purchase only gas that is the correct octane for your wheels.
  • Pack efficiently, the lighter your load, the less fuel you’re going to use up.
  • Drive smoothly, set your cruise control to maintain a constant speed and avoid sudden braking and acceleration. Got overdrive? Use it. Don’t tailgate. It leads to unnecessary braking and acceleration.
  • Start up the car only when everything is fixed and packed, don’t leave the car dle while it gobbles up your gas.
  • Park in the shade.
